Bengaluru, Dec 1 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has criticized Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR), IT, and BT Priyank Kharge for a staggering 40% decrease in startup investments within the state this year. The party has ridiculed Kharge for being more engaged in political ridicule than in addressing his responsibilities.
The Leader of Opposition, R. Ashoka, remarked on Monday, "While there is enthusiasm for political mockery, there is a glaring absence of interest in fostering technological progress. This is the modus operandi of our state’s IT-BT Minister, Priyank Kharge."
Ashoka further criticized Kharge for meddling in unrelated issues while attempting to ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), claiming he shows neither awareness of his duties nor any genuine interest in them.
“Due to Priyank Kharge’s negligence and inaction, startup investments in our state have plummeted by 40%,” Ashoka asserted. “Karnataka and Bengaluru, once celebrated as hubs of innovation, now find themselves overshadowed by other states.”
Ashoka emphasized the need for a proactive IT Minister who prioritizes the future of young innovators and investors, rather than a 'troll minister' who engages solely in political mockery.
“In essence, Karnataka cannot advance until it is liberated from this Congress-led government,” Ashoka concluded.
He referenced a report by Tracxn, a market intelligence firm based in Bengaluru, which revealed a 44% year-on-year decline in funding for Karnataka's startup ecosystem in the first half of 2025. Specifically, Q1 2025 recorded a 23% drop compared to the last quarter of 2024.
Discussing the controversial tunnel project proposed by the Congress-led government in Bengaluru, Ashoka questioned the rationale behind Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s push for the project despite public opposition and expert warnings regarding its environmental impact.
Ashoka further claimed, "The Rs 18,500-crore tunnel road project in Bengaluru is merely a scheme to line the pockets of the high command, fulfilling Shivakumar’s ambition of becoming Chief Minister.”
