Dhaka, August 11 (NationPress) The Awami League has voiced serious apprehension regarding the situation in Bangladesh under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus, claiming that the nation has been severely impacted by the rampant actions of extremist communal-terrorist groups and foreign operatives.
The party has put forth 21 demands aimed at addressing the ongoing socioeconomic-political turmoil and reinstating the democratic framework of the country, which was originally established after the triumph in the Liberation War led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Pointing out the dire circumstances, the Awami League emphasized that Bangladesh, which once celebrated its independence, is now a bloodied and battered landscape resembling a war zone.
“Democracy is in exile, human rights are being violated, media freedom has vanished, and there is an alarming rise in violence against women, assaults, and rapes. The safety of people's lives and property is under threat; religious minorities are facing continuous oppression; and the law and order situation has deteriorated,” stated the Awami League.
Furthermore, the party underscored the crumbling rule of law and justice across the country, declaring, “From urban centers to the most remote areas -- unchecked mob violence, theft, extortion, and robbery are rampant.”
The Awami League accused public enemy Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, of betraying Bangladesh by dragging it into a multinational conflict.
“The wave of extremist violence has instilled fear across the nation. There are conspiracies afoot to surrender Bangladesh's land and resources to foreign interests... In this grave crisis, we must all unite under the spirit of the Liberation War to oust the foreign-serving usurper Yunus and his puppet government,” it added.
The party urged citizens to safeguard and uphold the Constitution of the country.
Included in its 21 demands are the immediate resignation of Yunus, the cessation of the fascist regime, and the restoration of democracy, alongside a thorough investigation and legal action regarding Yunus’s unconstitutional power grab, which has disrespected the Constitution and the Supreme Court, particularly following attacks on justices Obydul Hasan and Enayetur Rahim.
Additionally, the Awami League called for the dismissal of all politically motivated false charges against Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajib Wazed Joy, and other members of the Bangabandhu family, as well as the unconditional release of all detained Awami League and allied leaders, activists, and professionals.
The party also demanded the protection of religious minorities from extremist violence, an end to violence against women, and the identification and punishment of those responsible for widespread mob violence.
In a message directed at the citizens of Bangladesh, the party remarked, “It is widely known that the public enemy Yunus is a usurer, corrupt embezzler, money launderer, and a power-hungry representative of international extremist communal factions, and has been found guilty by labor courts for misappropriating workers' funds.”
The Awami League asserted that since Yunus assumed his role as Chief Advisor on August 8, 2024, he has accrued enormous illegal advantages for himself and his Grameen entities -- including significant tax exemptions, permits, land acquisitions, and international business contracts -- while exploiting the stock market and crippling the economy.
The Awami League urged pro-liberation, democratic, and non-communal forces to join together to remove Yunus, end mob violence, and restore the democratic system under Hasina's guidance, while honoring the spirit of the Liberation War.
