Quetta, Oct 30 (NationPress) The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a prominent human rights organization, has criticized the ongoing imprisonment trial of its leaders and activists in Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), labeling it as political retaliation masked as a legal procedure.
This statement follows the presentation of arguments in ATC regarding bail requests for arrested BYC central organizer Mahrang Baloch, along with central figures Bebarg Baloch and Sibgatullah Shah Ji, alongside activists Beebow Baloch and Gulzadi Baloch.
The BYC asserts that the court heard arguments pertaining to nine FIRs during the session, and after considering significant points, has postponed the decision until November 6.
According to the rights organization, these human rights advocates have been held for the past seven months, with the initial three months spent in “illegal” detention under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The organization claims that “false cases and fabricated FIRs” were filed against them to facilitate their ongoing detention.
The BYC described this process as not only a “breach of fundamental human rights” but also a blatant instance of political vengeance and state oppression.
“By bringing minor political cases into the Anti-Terrorism Court, the legal framework is being disregarded. Such actions aim to stifle dissenting political voices and to quell the democratic aspirations of the Baloch populace through coercion and brutality. Various delaying strategies are being employed—sometimes via remands, at other times due to a judge's absence, and currently by conducting trials within the jail—these tactics are efforts to unnecessarily extend the legal proceedings,” stated the BYC.
Reiterating its commitment to combating all forms of oppression, injustice, and enforced disappearances, the BYC has vowed to continue bringing attention to severe human rights abuses in Balochistan on a global scale.
It has also pledged to challenge every manifestation of oppression using democratic and political methods, while exposing Pakistan’s constitutional violations to the international community.
