Rights Group Reports Extrajudicial Killings and Disappearances by Pakistani Forces in Balochistan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, April 18 (NationPress) A tragic incident has unfolded in Balochistan, where five civilians were reportedly killed without trial, and four others have gone missing, as stated by prominent human rights organizations.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) reported that the bullet-ridden body of 17-year-old Hatim Baloch was found on April 16, almost 11 days after he was allegedly taken by personnel from Pakistan's Frontier Corps in the Paroom region of the Panjgur district.
Denouncing this brutal act, the BYC expressed, "The state has submerged Balochistan in blood. The thirst for Baloch blood is insatiable. Whenever the state is overwhelmed by its impulses, it spills Baloch blood without hesitation. Those who raise their voices are imprisoned in dungeons to silence them. Drone strikes target civilian populations, lives are lost, and a climate of fear is cultivated to ensure silence among the populace."
In another incident on the same day, the rights group disclosed that Pakistani forces killed four Baloch civilians in what was described as a staged encounter, subsequently bringing their tortured bodies to Panjgur Hospital, claiming they were casualties of combat.
The BYC voiced serious concern regarding the ongoing human rights violations in Balochistan, stating, "The killings of Baloch individuals, especially those who have been forcibly disappeared and later found dead in staged encounters, represent a systematic form of Baloch genocide. In just the Panjgur district, around 40 Baloch youths have been brutally killed and their disfigured bodies discarded over the past three months."
Addressing the violations against civilians throughout Balochistan, the Baloch National Movement's Human Rights Department condemned the enforced disappearance of two Baloch youths in Panjgur on Friday at the hands of Pakistani forces.
According to reports, FC personnel stormed the home of Dad Mohammad, detaining his son Abdul Wahid Dad and another individual, Ashfaq Adam. Both were subjected to enforced disappearance, leaving their families in distress as their whereabouts remain unknown.
Additionally, 19-year-old Ali Asghar was forcibly taken from his residence in the Jiwani area of Gwadar district during a raid conducted by Pakistani Military Intelligence (MI) on April 16.
Moreover, another 19-year-old student, Mehraj, was abducted on April 12 from Green Plaza near the Children's Hospital in Quetta, carried out by personnel of Pakistan's Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
The rights organization emphasized that since Mehraj's abduction, his current status remains unknown, resulting in significant concern for his safety and profound anguish for his family.
