Violence Escalates: Two Civilians Killed, Five Missing in Balochistan Amid Allegations Against Pakistani Forces
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, February 25 (NationPress) - As the violence targeting civilians escalates in Balochistan, a prominent human rights organization revealed on Wednesday the extrajudicial killings of two civilians and the forced disappearance of five others in the province, allegedly orchestrated by Pakistani forces.
The Baloch National Movement's Human Rights Department, known as Paank, reported that on Tuesday morning, personnel from Pakistan’s Frontier Corps (FC), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and intelligence agencies, in collaboration with a state-sponsored death squad, conducted a raid on a residence in the Khudabadan region of the Panjgur district.
During this operation, three brothers and their nephew were forcibly taken, and later in the day, one of them was found to have been extrajudicially killed.
The deceased were identified as Owais Ahmed, Bakhteyar, Irfan, and Bilal.
According to reports, Owais Ahmed, the nephew, underwent severe torture during the raid on Tuesday and sustained significant injuries.
Later that day, his mutilated body was discovered, showing evident signs of torture, while the fates of the three brothers remain unknown.
On the same day, the Pakistani forces and a death squad also raided another home in the same area, forcibly disappearing Hassan Khalil, a 23-year-old student at the University of Panjgur.
Highlighting the ongoing atrocities against Baloch civilians, Paank noted that the mutilated body of Taimoor, aged 26, was found discarded in the Surab district of Balochistan on February 20, after having been forcibly taken by the FC on February 9.
Furthermore, Paank reported that Imdad Baloch, a Turbat city resident in Kech district, was forcibly disappeared from his home during a late-night raid conducted by the Pakistan Army and CTD on February 24. He worked at a bookstore in the Shaheed Fida Chowk area of Turbat.
In response, the Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) expressed serious concerns over the “ongoing harassment, racial profiling, discrimination, and threats” against Baloch students throughout Pakistan, including at Punjab University.
“Baloch students are subjected to identity-based targeting, enforced disappearances, and heightened profiling,” the rights organization claimed.
It further revealed that on February 23, a senior student was harassed in his hostel room, recorded, and threatened by Pakistani intelligence agencies.
The HRCB has called for an independent investigation, accountability, and comprehensive protection of the rights and safety of Baloch students across Pakistan.
