Escalating Violence: Two Civilians Extrajudicially Killed and Two Disappeared in Balochistan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, Feb 23 (NationPress) As violence against civilians escalates in Balochistan, a prominent human rights organization revealed on Monday two alarming incidents—the extrajudicial killings of two civilians and the enforced disappearance of two others allegedly by Pakistani forces across the province.
The Baloch National Movement's Human Rights Department, known as Paank, reported the recovery of the mutilated body of 20-year-old Janzaib Baloch in the Panjgur district on February 20. He had been forcibly disappeared by a Pakistan-backed death squad on October 13, 2025.
According to the organization's findings, Janzaib's body exhibited clear signs of extreme torture, suggesting he suffered brutal abuse prior to his death.
In another incident, a civilian was also extrajudicially killed after being forcibly disappeared by personnel from Pakistan’s Frontier Corps on February 9 at Mall FC Chowki along the Main RCD Road in the Surab district. His body was found eleven days later, on February 20, similarly displaying signs of severe torture.
Paank highlighted the ongoing atrocities against Baloch civilians, noting that 29-year-old Muhammad Jan, from Killi Qambrani in Quetta, was forcibly disappeared by Pakistani security forces on February 19. Furthermore, 16-year-old Ghaffar Baloch, a student, was taken by Frontier Corps personnel from Shopping Road in the Kalat district on February 10.
The latest Paank report documented a series of alarming human rights violations in Balochistan, focusing on enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings targeting civilians. “The incidents recorded during January indicate a deeply troubling pattern of state repression, arbitrary detentions, and unlawful executions by Pakistani security forces. These abuses reveal a persistent climate of impunity and fear throughout Balochistan,” the organization stated.
The report identified a total of 82 cases of enforced disappearances, illustrating the systematic targeting of Baloch civilians. Additionally, 44 victims were released after enduring severe mental and physical torture, further evidencing the use of coercive interrogation methods.
Paank's findings reveal that extrajudicial killings by Pakistani forces in Balochistan remain unabated, with reports of detaining and killing individuals without due process. The report confirms 12 cases of extrajudicial killings during this timeframe, highlighting the deadly consequences of unchecked state power.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Balochistan, Paank called for independent investigations, accountability mechanisms, and international monitoring to safeguard vulnerable communities across the province.
