What is the Baloch Women Forum highlighting about the rise in human rights abuses in Balochistan?

Key Takeaways
Quetta, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) has voiced grave concerns regarding the alarming surge in human rights violations throughout Balochistan, noting a significant spike in abuses against civilians, particularly women, perpetrated by Pakistani security forces.
In its report titled “Baloch Women Victimisation in 2025”, the BWF underscored that women have increasingly become targets of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, with a marked rise since December 2025. It further noted that indiscriminate firing by Pakistani forces and various forms of harassment against women have profoundly affected the Baloch community.
The report indicated that the previous year also saw a coordinated assault on the Baloch political party and activists, with a particular focus on women activists, who have faced arrests, irregular court trials, and ongoing harassment.
“The victimisation of Baloch women reflects a long-standing state agenda, which has intensified over the last year, 2025. With twelve (12) documented cases of enforced disappearances—six remain missing, three have been released, and one was executed—Baloch women continue to live in a state of constant fear regarding enforced disappearances and persecution, necessitating immediate action to foster a peaceful and stable society,” emphasized the BWF.
“Despite the reality that the actual cases likely exceed those recorded, families often choose silence over resistance to protect their honour and ensure future safety for their daughters. This dynamic inadvertently fuels state-sanctioned human rights violations against Baloch women, particularly enforced disappearances,” they added.
The report also highlighted that extrajudicial killings are a grave concern in Balochistan, especially regarding targeted murders, fake encounters, in-custody fatalities, and fabricated explosive incidents.
This region has been marked by severe human rights violations, often described as a hub for “atrocities without accountability”.
The BWF referenced reports indicating that in 2025, besides the extrajudicial killings of Baloch men, a mother-daughter pair was forcibly disappeared by Pakistani security forces in the Panjgur district of the province last October. The two faced extreme abuses, with the daughter ultimately succumbing to her injuries while the perpetrators remain unpunished, allegedly due to protection from Pakistani authorities.
The forum pointed out that numerous Baloch women have endured direct violence through various means, particularly torture during illegal detentions, indiscriminate gunfire, and associated abuses by Pakistani forces.
The BWF asserted that while enforced disappearances are recognized as severe human rights violations under both international commitments and Pakistan’s constitution, this practice persists across the nation, with Baloch women increasingly among the victims.
“We unequivocally condemn the enforced disappearances of Baloch women and urge state authorities to address this issue with urgency before it becomes unmanageable. Such actions fundamentally challenge the broader interests of Baloch society,” the BWF stated.
