Dhaka, Sep 23 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh has publicly denounced the custodial death of its party leaders and supporters across the nation, notably the murder of their leader Abu Bakkar Siddique Munna in the Gaibandha district during the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus.
In a strong rebuke of the Yunus administration, the party asserted that the citizens of Bangladesh are witnessing the heinous actions of the “illegal usurper, killer, fascist Yunus and his accomplices” who are systematically targeting Awami League leaders and activists in various brutal ways.
“Continuing this trend, Abu Bakkar Siddique Munna (known as Munna Chairman), who served as the Awami League leader in Kanchipara Union of Phulchhari Upazila, has been murdered. We vehemently condemn this orchestrated killing by the illegal usurper, killer, fascist Yunus and his associates. Our thoughts are with the grieving family, and we promise that justice will prevail for all such atrocities in the Bangladesh of tomorrow,” stated an official release from the Awami League.
The party accused the Yunus administration of fabricating false charges to unjustly imprison Awami League personnel, leaders of the central 14-party alliance, and other citizens from diverse backgrounds for extended durations.
According to the Awami League, while prisons are typically seen as safe places, detainees in Bangladesh are facing unimaginable torment. It further claimed that inmates are subjected to severe physical and psychological abuse, resulting in a rising number of custodial deaths on a daily basis.
Moreover, the party noted that custodial killings have recently occurred in several regions of the country, including Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Gaibandha.
Despite growing public outrage and the pleas from mourning families, the Awami League accused the “illegal usurper” Yunus regime of remaining indifferent.
“Even now, Awami League leaders and activists are facing lethal torture through various means. Fabricated and vexatious charges are being imposed on all. When one case leads to bail, ‘shown arrest’ is invoked in another to unjustly prolong their detention. This method not only inflicts physical pain but also psychological torment to eliminate Awami League leaders and activists,” the party emphasized.
