Washington, Jan 14 (NationPress) US President Joe Biden emphasized taking the Quad to the "next level" as one of the significant foreign policy successes of his administration. He noted that hosting the leaders at his residence for the final summit demonstrated that "we're truly friends."
On Monday, Biden asserted that he has fortified America's bilateral and multilateral alliances like NATO and the Quad, established new partnerships such as AUKUS with the UK and Australia, and diminished the influence of adversaries including Russia, China, and Iran.
He elaborated on his choice to withdraw the US from Afghanistan, marking the conclusion of the nation's longest conflict.
"The United States is outperforming in the global competition compared to four years ago," Biden declared during a speech at the State Department.
"America is more robust. Our alliances are more resilient, and our adversaries are less formidable."
"I've elevated the Quad to the next level," Biden stated, referring specifically to the coalition formed with India, Australia, and Japan.
He mentioned that the last summit of the four leaders was originally planned for New York during the UN meetings in September. However, a suggestion arose to hold it at his home in Delaware.
"I asked, why? So that people recognize that we're genuinely friends."
Biden hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at his residence and school in Wilmington.
Biden indeed elevated the group. After reviving the Quad in 2017, President Donald Trump’s administration escalated it to the foreign minister level. President Biden advanced it to the leaders' level as one of his initial actions after assuming office in 2021. The coalition has met several times at the summit level, both virtually and in person.
