California Advocates for Completion of New Border Crossing Amid Trump’s Threat of Border Enforcement

New York, Dec 6 (NationPress) California Governor Gavin Newsom has appealed to the Joe Biden administration for increased federal support to expedite the construction of a new port of entry in San Diego County ahead of President-elect Donald Trump taking office, as reported by sources.

Newsom attributes Trump's win in November to heightened concerns among certain voters regarding migrants at the border, alongside Trump's pledge for mass deportations. The California Governor aims to shift the national dialogue surrounding the border, highlighting the significance of U.S. trade with Mexico in bolstering the economy, reducing consumer prices, and sustaining millions of jobs nationwide, according to a report by Xinhua news agency citing The Washington Post.

On Thursday, Newsom is set to reveal the initiation of a roadway leading to the new Otay Mesa East Port of Entry, as per aides who requested anonymity to discuss plans that have yet to be officially disclosed.

According to state officials, this new crossing is anticipated to alleviate the lengthy wait times for vehicles and trucks that often experience delays of several hours at the U.S.-Mexico border, thus enhancing commerce and minimizing pollution in those regions.

Trump has criticized Newsom's “insane policy decisions”. Furthermore, advisers to the president-elect are reportedly already strategizing on how to withdraw federal funding from Democratic-led cities that refuse to engage in deportation efforts for undocumented immigrants starting next year, the report noted.
