“Cambodia and Thailand are set to commence high-level talks in Malaysia shortly, aiming for an immediate ceasefire. State Department officials are present in Malaysia to support these peace initiatives. Both President Donald Trump and I are actively engaged with our respective counterparts and are closely monitoring the situation. Our goal is to see an end to this conflict as soon as possible,” stated Rubio in a press release.
Additionally, Rubio conducted separate phone calls on Sunday with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, urging both nations to promptly de-escalate tensions and agree to a ceasefire regarding the ongoing border disputes.
“Secretary Rubio emphasized President Trump’s commitment to peace and the necessity for an immediate ceasefire. The United States is ready to facilitate further discussions to promote peace and stability between Thailand and Cambodia,” commented US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

He also requested Trump to communicate to Cambodia that “Thailand is eager to initiate bilateral talks promptly to outline procedures and measures for the ceasefire and a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” the statement added.
Conversely, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia’s readiness for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” between their armed forces and Thailand's.
Border skirmishes between Cambodia and Thailand erupted on Thursday, with both parties accusing one another of breaching international law.
