Quetta, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a prominent human rights organization, is advocating for justice, accountability, and resistance as it commemorates one year of the enforced detention of its chief organizer, Mahrang Baloch, and other leaders.

The BYC has initiated a global campaign lasting one month, running from February 20 to March 20, aimed at documenting human rights abuses, opposing repression, and calling for accountability.

According to the organization, the repression faced by Balochistan from Pakistani authorities has escalated since March 2025.

Last March, Mahrang Baloch and several fellow BYC activists were charged with terrorism after she organized a sit-in protest against the illegal arrests and police remand of family members of victims of enforced disappearances.

The BYC highlighted, "The imprisonment of Mahrang Baloch, Bebagar Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Ji, Gulzadi, and Beebow Baloch exemplifies a widespread pattern of political suppression, enforced disappearances, and restrictions on social and political freedoms, along with the silencing of dissent."

The rights organization is calling on individuals globally—Baloch citizens, diaspora members, human rights advocates, and concerned citizens—to actively participate in this month-long initiative.

They encourage individuals to write articles, opinion pieces, and blog posts that emphasize the situation in Balochistan while also submitting reports and documentation to international human rights organizations.

Additionally, the BYC is urging people to draft letters to lawmakers, foreign ministries, the United Nations, its human rights mechanisms, international NGOs, and legal advocacy groups.

Describing it as a collective duty to raise awareness against the atrocities committed by Pakistani authorities, the BYC stated, "The fight for survival, dignity, and justice cannot rest solely on the shoulders of a few. It demands the strength of the collective. History shows that repression flourishes in silence and diminishes in the face of shared awareness."

This month, the BYC also expressed concerns regarding the independence of the legal process and the delays in judicial proceedings by a Pakistani court concerning bail applications for Mahrang Baloch and other leaders.

On December 17, 2025, the Balochistan High Court addressed the bail requests from Mahrang Baloch and other BYC leaders. While the defense completed its arguments, the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence to warrant ongoing detention.

The court reserved its judgment; however, nearly three months later, no decision has been issued. The BYC noted that in Pakistan, judgments on reserved bail matters are typically delivered within days or weeks.

They stated, "This delay is not merely procedural; it impacts fundamental rights, personal liberty, and public confidence in the judiciary. When peaceful political activists remain detained without evidence and face delays in judicial decisions, it reinforces the perception that legal systems are being manipulated to stifle dissent."
