Baloch Yakjehti Committee Exposes Systemic Repression and Unjust Detentions in Balochistan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, March 20 (NationPress) The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) organized a seminar in the Surab district of Balochistan, drawing attention to the systemic issues and oppression that local communities are currently facing. The committee accused the Pakistani authorities of employing legal strategies to stifle dissent.
This event was part of BYC's month-long awareness initiative, aiming to shed light on the human rights violations perpetrated by the state and the unjust imprisonment of its key organizer, Mahrang Baloch, along with other leaders.
“Speakers highlighted the use of legal frameworks to marginalize opposing voices, while communities in Balochistan continue to endure systemic oppression and challenges,” stated the BYC.
The participants voiced their concerns regarding the uncertainty faced by families of the Baloch who are still awaiting the return of their missing loved ones.
“The ongoing detention of BYC leaders, including Mahrang, was identified as a significant issue. Their plight symbolizes the broader struggles faced by those who peacefully advocate for rights, dignity, and justice. Despite numerous challenges, restrictions, and misinformation, the successful organization of this seminar exemplifies the resilience, unity, and unwavering determination of the movement,” the BYC remarked.
Additionally, the BYC conducted a public awareness campaign in Killi Qambrani and Saryab areas of provincial Quetta, distributing pamphlets to inform the public about the one-year mark of their leaders' detention. This campaign also highlighted the biased actions of the Pakistani courts, the oppressive crackdown, and the ongoing atrocities faced by the Baloch people.
“It is important to recognize that a total ban on authentic public politics exists in Balochistan. For merely being the voice of the people, BYC leaders have been kept in state custody for one year, deprived of their constitutional right to a fair trial under various pretexts,” the BYC emphasized.
In a show of solidarity with the people of Balochistan during these troubled times, the rights organization urged them to stay organized, resilient, and brave, remaining engaged in this resistance movement against the “genocide and oppression” faced by the Baloch, despite the ongoing hardships.
Balochistan remains under constant threat from brutal actions by Pakistani forces, characterized by forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Baloch civilians at alarming rates.
