Kananaskis (Canada), June 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney as the Indian leader arrived for the G7 Outreach Summit on Tuesday.
Confirming the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on social media platform X: "Building bridges for global progress and cooperation. PM @MarkJCarney of Canada welcomed PM @narendramodi at the #G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada."
Before this, PM Modi held separate discussions with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Australian PM Anthony Albanese, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the summit.
These meetings followed India’s Operation Sindoor, a targeted action against terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to the Pahalgam terror attacks on April 22.
The MEA stated, “During the Summit, the Prime Minister will discuss important issues with leaders from G-7 nations, other invited outreach nations, and Heads of International Organizations, covering vital global topics such as energy security, technology and innovation, especially the AI-energy nexus and Quantum-related matters.”
PM Narendra Modi arrived in Calgary on Monday morning for the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, marking his first visit to Canada in a decade.
He plans to address various developmental topics, including energy security, technology, and innovation with global leaders.
PM Modi expressed his intent to discuss critical global challenges while highlighting the priorities of the Global South.
The Kananaskis event, held from June 16 to 17, marks PM Modi's sixth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit.
Canadian PM Carney invited PM Modi to strengthen ties following a dip in India-Canada relations, triggered by allegations made by former PM Justin Trudeau regarding the killing of a Khalistani terrorist.
In recent months, security officials from India and Canada have reestablished contact, exploring the possibility of appointing new High Commissioners.
During his nearly 24-hour visit to Canada, PM Modi will attend the Outreach Session of the Summit and engage in several key bilateral meetings with various leaders before departing for Zagreb early Wednesday, India time.
PM Modi indicated that this three-nation visit is also a gesture of gratitude to partner countries for their unwavering support in India's struggle against cross-border terrorism and to enhance global collaboration in combating terrorism in its various forms.

The Group of Seven (G7) comprises seven of the world's leading economies: France, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada, along with the European Union.
At the Summit, PM Modi will interact with G7 leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, alongside Canada's PM Mark Carney.
On the sidelines, he is also expected to meet Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and leaders from various outreach nations and international organizations.
