Did PM Modi and World Leaders Unite for a Group Photo at the G7 Summit in Canada's Kananaskis?

Kananaskis (Canada), June 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi gathered with world leaders for a group photograph during the 51st G7 Summit on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister remarked that the image showcasing all G7 nations symbolized a united effort towards the advancement of the global community. He highlighted his fruitful discussions with leaders about pressing global issues and their shared vision for a better world.

In a post on his official X account, PM Modi stated: "Together for global progress! Engaging discussions with G7 leaders on crucial global challenges and shared dreams for a better planet."

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X: "A united commitment to tackle global challenges and uphold common values. PM @narendramodi with the leaders of @G7 countries and invited partners. #Kananaskis #G7Summit2025."

The group photo included notable leaders such as Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, France's President Emmanuel Macron, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney, Britain's Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa.

Additionally, the photo featured Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and World Bank President Ajay Banga.

US President Donald Trump abbreviated his G7 visit on Monday and returned home due to escalating tensions in the Middle East involving Iran and Israel.

On the sidelines of the G7 summit, PM Modi conducted a series of high-level bilateral meetings with leaders from Mexico, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, France, and Canada, reaffirming India’s dedication to strengthening global collaborations.

Confirming the bilateral discussions between India and Germany, MEA Spokesperson Jaiswal noted on X: "Enhancing India-Germany relations! PM @narendramodi and Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany engaged in constructive talks at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. The discussions covered advancing partnerships in sectors such as IT, innovation, manufacturing, semiconductors, and more. The leaders also agreed on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts."

The MEA Spokesperson also stated on X, "PM @narendramodi met President Lee Jae-Myung of the Republic of Korea on the sidelines of the 51st #G7Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. The meeting underscored both sides’ commitment to deepening the India-Republic of Korea Special Strategic Partnership through cooperation in trade, economy, critical and emerging technologies, green hydrogen, shipbuilding, culture, and fostering people-to-people ties. They also discussed regional and global issues."

Further strengthening ties in Latin America, Jaiswal remarked in another post, "Enhancing India-Mexico warm & historical ties. PM @narendramodi met President @Claudiashein of Mexico during the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada. This marked their first meeting, discussing avenues to deepen cooperation in trade, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, digital innovation, and shared views on key global and regional priorities, especially for the Global South."

Continuing his diplomatic engagements at the summit, PM Modi also spoke with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia.

In a post on X, PM Modi remarked, "Great to meet my friend, PM Albanese of Australia during the G7 Summit in Canada! @AlboMP."

Highlighting India's interaction with the host nation, Jaiswal shared, "Building bridges for global progress and cooperation. PM @MarkJCarney of Canada welcomed PM @narendramodi at the #G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada."

Adding to the series of significant bilateral meetings, PM Modi also met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

In a social media post, PM Modi expressed, "Pleased to connect with President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa at the G7 Summit. @CyrilRamaphosa."

PM Modi emphasized his intention to highlight the priorities of the Global South during the summit. This visit forms part of his three-nation official tour, which commenced in Cyprus and will conclude in Croatia.

In a post on X, PM Modi noted, "Arrived in Calgary, Canada, for the G7 Summit. I will be engaging with various leaders and sharing insights on critical global matters, while also focusing on the priorities of the Global South."

The G7 Summit is an annual event that gathers leaders from the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union (EU). This participation marks PM Modi's sixth consecutive attendance at the G7 Summit.
