How are India and Japan Enhancing Their Bilateral Relations?

Kananaskis (Canada), June 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during the G7 Summit on Tuesday, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to further bolster bilateral relations across diverse sectors.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi stated: "Engaging discussions with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the G7 Summit in Canada. India and Japan are dedicated to deepen bilateral connections across multiple domains. @shigeruishiba."

On June 13, PM Ishiba expressed profound sorrow regarding the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which resulted in the loss of over 241 lives.

In his official statement, he conveyed condolences on behalf of the Japanese government and its citizens to the bereaved families and wished for a quick recovery for the injured.

PM Ishiba remarked, "I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of many precious lives in the aviation disaster in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. On behalf of the Government of Japan and its people, I extend heartfelt condolences to those who perished and their grieving families. I also pray for the swift recovery of the injured," on June 13.

This incident is regarded as one of the gravest aviation tragedies in Indian history, with the aircraft, operating as Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London, Gatwick, crashing into a residential area near BJ Medical College, resulting in the deaths of over 241 individuals aboard.

Earlier, PM Modi also had discussions with UK PM Keir Starmer during the G7 Summit.

In a post on X, he mentioned: "A remarkable conversation with Prime Minister Keir Starmer! The ties between India and the UK are strengthening, evident in the progress we've made in areas like trade and commerce. We will continue to collaborate to further enhance this wonderful friendship. @Keir_Starmer."

Additionally, he shared: "I had a productive meeting with South Korea's President Lee Jae-myung in Canada. India and the Republic of Korea aim to cooperate in sectors such as commerce, investment, technology, green hydrogen, shipbuilding, and more. @Jaemyung_Lee."

Earlier, PM Modi expressed his pleasure at discussing matters with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the G7 Summit, emphasizing the close friendship between India and Germany, built on shared values. This year marks 25 years of our Strategic Partnership. We discussed enhancing collaboration in fields like IT, manufacturing, semiconductors, sustainability, research, and innovation. Chancellor Merz and I also deliberated on strengthening defense and security ties, including counter-terrorism efforts. @bundeskanzler.

Furthermore, PM Modi met with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, congratulating her on her historic electoral victory as the first female President in two centuries. PM Modi also engaged with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Australian PM Anthony Albanese separately at the G7 Summit, following a warm reception by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
