Patna, Dec 3 (NationPress) A volatile situation erupted at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Wednesday after a confrontation between healthcare professionals and the family of a deceased patient escalated into violence. Following this clash, the medical staff declared an immediate halt to OPD services, causing distress among numerous patients.

Only emergency services continued to operate.

The deceased was from Mahendru in Sultanganj and had been admitted to PMCH three days prior due to a brain hemorrhage. His son, Aman Singh, reported that the conflict ignited during an ECG test when his sister inquired about their father's condition.

Aman claimed that the doctor reacted angrily to the question, verbally abusing him and even snatching his iPhone.

The argument escalated, culminating in a physical confrontation between both parties. Amid the chaos, Aman asserted that the Rs 1 lakh he had in his pocket was lost.

Law enforcement was contacted immediately.

A police team arrived and was able to extricate Aman Singh from the doctors, as per eyewitness accounts. Aman subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the local police station.

Station House Officer Sajjad Gaddi confirmed that the incident occurred within the PMCH emergency ward. 'A complaint has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. Appropriate action will be taken against any party found culpable,' he stated.

This incident has caused considerable disruption to healthcare services at Bihar's largest government hospital, with patients urging for the prompt resumption of OPD services.

In a similar vein, chaos erupted at Muzaffarpur's Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) on Wednesday morning following a patient’s death, resulting in a violent confrontation between family members and doctors. Numerous vehicles were damaged, and OPD services were halted, causing significant inconvenience to hundreds of patients.

Prakash Kumar and Avinash Kumar, residents of Chakmahmad village under the Ahiyapur police station jurisdiction, hurried their father, Rajgir Paswan, to SKMCH after his condition worsened. According to the family, multiple tests were undertaken, and treatment commenced in the emergency ward.

The deceased's sons accused the attending physician of administering seven to eight injections to Rajgir Paswan without proper medical evaluation, arousing suspicion. The situation intensified when the family confronted the doctor regarding the injections.

Prakash and Avinash claimed that the doctor used 'caste-based insults' against them, pulled them into his cabin—a location devoid of CCTV coverage—and, along with a security guard, violently assaulted them with sticks and hockey sticks. They also alleged that the guard confiscated a mobile phone valued at Rs 1.5 lakh, and their vehicle was vandalized on hospital grounds.

After their father’s passing, their mother wept outside. When the brothers informed the doctor that the death was due to negligence, they were reportedly attacked again.

Both brothers sustained various injuries, including head trauma and torn clothing. They then transported their father’s body and belongings back to their car and reached the SKMCH police outpost to file an initial report along with details of the damaged vehicle.

Conversely, the doctors and their supporters accused the patient’s family of assaulting the doctor.

In response, doctors at SKMCH initiated a strike, ceasing OPD services. Despite ongoing discussions by the medical college administration, the OPD remains closed.

The doctor is calling for action against those who allegedly attacked him, while the family’s claims are also being regarded as serious.

Ahiyapur police station in-charge Rohan Kumar confirmed that a physical altercation transpired between the two parties within the hospital on Wednesday morning. He indicated that action will be taken once written complaints from both factions are received and reviewed.
