Is India's Invitation to G7 a Reflection of PM Modi's Leadership?

Kananaskis, June 18 (NationPress) India's invitation to the G7 Summit is a clear indication of its vital role on the global stage and the effective leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as stated by Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney.

During their bilateral discussions on Tuesday, Carney emphasized that India's involvement is crucial for collaboratively addressing the challenge of terrorism.

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Carney for the G7 invitation, stating, "It is an honor to return to Canada after 2015 and engage with its people."

He highlighted that India, being the world's largest democracy, has undertaken numerous positive initiatives during its presidency of the G20 Summit, which now find renewed expression at the G7. This summit presents an opportunity for India to contribute to humanitarian causes it remains committed to both now and in the future.

PM Modi remarked, "India and Canada enjoy strong ties. Canadian firms are investing in India, and Indian investors are also contributing to Canada's growth. Both nations are dedicated to upholding democratic values, enhancing democracy, and optimizing resources for humanitarian purposes." He congratulated Prime Minister Carney on his recent election victory and looked forward to a productive partnership during his tenure.

In a post on his official X account, PM Modi stated, "PM Carney and I aim to strengthen the India-Canada relationship, particularly in trade, energy, space, clean energy, and critical minerals."

He also noted that their meeting was highly productive, emphasizing that Canada and India share a robust belief in democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.

According to Carney, India has been actively participating in G7 Summits since the Biarritz meeting in France in 2019.

Carney remarked, "This demonstrates your country's significance, your leadership, and the critical issues we aim to address together." He identified key topics including energy security, the energy transition, the future of artificial intelligence, and the fight against terrorism.

Carney is working to mend relations with India that were strained under the previous administration of Justin Trudeau, who made accusations against India influenced by Khalistani elements.

PM Modi reiterated on X, "PM Carney and I are eager to collaborate closely."

As the host of the Kananaskis Summit, Carney reaffirmed his invitation to PM Modi, noting, "India is the fifth-largest economy and the most populous nation, crucial to global supply chains."

Canada is home to one of the largest Indian diasporas, with 1.8 million Indo-Canadians and one million Indian nationals living there.
