Concerns Raised by Bangladesh Minority Council Over False Allegations Against Lawyers and Journalists

Dhaka, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has voiced deep concern regarding a false and harassing case targeting 70 minority lawyers and two journalists from Chittagong.
The complaint lodged at the Kotwali police station on November 30 alleges their involvement in crude bomb explosions and vandalism of vehicles.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the council indicated that this case was initiated with the malicious intent to obstruct the sedition proceedings against ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and to forcibly hinder the publication and dissemination of related news, thereby violating human rights and the rule of law.
The council has also urged the Bangladeshi government and law enforcement officials to promptly annul the false allegations and take immediate action to release the detained lawyers and journalists.
In related developments, ISKCON Kolkata reported on Saturday that two monks, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari, along with the secretary of Chinmoy Krishna Das, had been arrested by Bangladeshi authorities.
Radha Raman, Vice President of ISKCON Kolkata, stated that the monks were apprehended on Friday while returning home after visiting Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on sedition charges on November 25.
"On November 29, while returning from visiting Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari were taken into custody by the police. We are also receiving reports that the secretary of Chinmoy Krishna Das has also been detained," Radha Raman mentioned in a personal video.
He further alleged that rioters had also damaged the ISKCON center in Bangladesh.
The atmosphere in Bangladesh has been fraught with tension since preacher Chinmoy Krishna Das was charged with sedition for allegedly hoisting a saffron flag above the national flag of Bangladesh in Chittagong on October 25.
After Das's arrest, a lawyer lost his life amid clashes between police and supposed followers of the spiritual leader in the Chattogram Court Building area on November 27.
On Friday, India expressed its apprehension regarding the escalation of extremist rhetoric, alongside the rise in violent incidents and provocations in Bangladesh.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has consistently and firmly raised concerns about the targeted attacks on Hindus and other minority communities with the Bangladeshi government.
