Brussels, June 9 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar engaged in talks with Maxime Prevot, Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressing appreciation for the nation’s support and solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
During their discussions, the EAM praised the warm and friendly relations between India and Belgium, which are also evident in their strong economic partnership.
"It was a pleasure to meet DPM and FM Maxime Prevot at the beginning of my visit to Belgium. I acknowledged Belgium's unwavering support and solidarity in the battle against terrorism. Furthermore, I appreciated the considerable progress in our bilateral relations and the India-EU partnership. We also explored avenues for enhancing our collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, technology, defence and security, pharmaceuticals, clean energy, and mobility," Jaishankar shared on X following the meeting.
The External Affairs Minister is currently on an official trip to France, the EU, and Belgium from June 8 to 14, aiming to strengthen India's friendly ties and reinvigorate ongoing collaborations across various sectors.
India-Belgium cooperation encompasses numerous fields including trade and investment, green energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, and the diamond industry, along with robust people-to-people connections.
During his time in Belgium, the EAM will also meet with senior Belgian leadership and engage with members of the Indian community.
The India-European Union strategic partnership has evolved significantly over the years across various sectors, receiving a significant boost with the inaugural visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February this year. Throughout this visit, the EAM will hold a Strategic Dialogue with the EU High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas, and will connect with senior leaders from the European Commission and the European Parliament, in addition to engaging with think tanks and media," stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding the EAM's visit.
During this trip, EAM Jaishankar will also travel to Paris and Marseille, where he will hold bilateral discussions with France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean Noel Barrot. He is slated to participate in the inaugural Mediterranean Raisina Dialogue taking place in Marseille.
"India and France have celebrated 25 years of strategic partnership. Our relationship with France is built on deep trust and commitment, and we collaborate closely across all domains of strategic and contemporary relevance while sharing similar perspectives on many regional and global matters. He will also interact with France’s senior leadership and engage with think tanks and the media," detailed the MEA.
