Cairo, March 26 (NationPress) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani engaged in a phone discussion on Wednesday, focusing on the efforts to resume and implement the Gaza ceasefire deal.
As per a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, both parties exchanged views on facilitating an early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza to help ensure that Palestinians can settle on their homeland.
They reached a consensus to continue their coordination to mitigate regional escalation and avert further tensions, the statement elaborated.
Additionally, they underscored the significance of collaborative efforts to achieve a political resolution that secures regional stability by establishing a Palestinian state as a definitive resolution to the ongoing conflict, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
A phased ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas commenced on January 19 following 15 months of Israel's extensive assault on Gaza. The initial phase involves the release of 33 hostages alongside approximately 2,000 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons. All remaining living hostages are anticipated to be freed in the subsequent phase in return for a permanent ceasefire and the release of additional Palestinian detainees.
On Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez disapproved of the ongoing Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip.
During their conversation, they highlighted the urgent necessity for an immediate ceasefire, the cessation of the Israeli ground incursions into the Strip, and the prompt provision of humanitarian assistance, according to the statement from the Egyptian presidency.
Sisi reiterated Egypt's opposition to any efforts aimed at displacing Palestinians from their territory. Sanchez supported an Arab-led initiative to reconstruct Gaza and aligned Spain's stance with Egypt in opposing the forced displacement of Palestinians or any actions that weaken their cause, the statement mentioned.
