Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Saturday, 15 August 2025, called for sustained joint efforts to strengthen the bilateral partnership between India and Bangladesh, underscoring the people-to-people ties that underpin the relationship. His remarks came during India's 80th Independence Day celebrations held at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

Key Remarks at the Dhaka Celebration

Addressing Indian students, mission staff, and prominent Bangladeshi guests — including Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe — Trivedi described the human connection between the two nations as the cornerstone of their enduring friendship. 'We recognise that it is the people-to-people connection, rooted in shared aspiration and mutual goodwill, that remains the true beating heart of this enduring friendship,' he said, according to Bangladeshi media outlet UNB.

Trivedi called on both nations to deepen cooperation across vital sectors including trade, connectivity, security, and healthcare, framing shared prosperity as the natural destination of the partnership. 'Let us also continue to nurture the exceptional bonds of friendship between India and Bangladesh, working hand in hand toward shared prosperity,' he added.

Shared History as the Foundation

The High Commissioner drew on the shared legacy of both nations' freedom struggles, arguing that this common history gives the bilateral relationship an unusually strong foundation. 'With the history of the freedom struggle, our bond is deeply entwined. On this solid bedrock of shared history, mutual respect, and partnership, our relationship continues to flourish,' Trivedi said.

He also emphasised that the relationship must evolve in step with the aspirations of citizens on both sides, while preserving the goodwill that defines it. 'Today we celebrate not only the dawn of our freedom, but the enduring strength of our democratic traditions, and the remarkable growth story of modern India,' he said.

Swachhata Abhiyan and Mission Activities

As part of the Independence Day observances, officers and staff of the High Commission of India in Dhaka conducted a Swachhata Abhiyan — a cleanliness drive — in the vicinity of the mission. 'The cleanliness drive reflected our shared commitment to a cleaner and greener environment,' the High Commission posted on X.

Bangladesh Extends Greetings to India

Earlier on the same day, Bangladesh conveyed warm Independence Day wishes to India through its High Commission in New Delhi. In a multilingual post on X, the Bangladesh High Commission to India highlighted the themes of 'Friendship, Harmony and Prosperity.' 'Bangladesh greets all men, women, and children in India as they celebrate eightieth Independence Day. We solemnly remember the brave souls who laid their lives in the long Freedom Movement,' the post read.

This comes amid a broader effort by both governments to stabilise and expand ties across economic and strategic domains, with the exchange of Independence Day greetings reinforcing diplomatic goodwill at a symbolic level. As both nations look ahead, the emphasis from Dhaka and New Delhi appears firmly placed on translating rhetorical warmth into concrete sectoral progress.
