Kyiv, Sep 28 (NationPress) In a strong condemnation of Russia's recent wave of assaults, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Sunday that four individuals, including a child, lost their lives, while 40 others sustained injuries due to Moscow's latest attacks. The primary targets of these strikes included the regions of Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa.
In a statement shared on X, Zelensky pointed out that this onslaught coincided with the ongoing 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He urged the international community to impose stringent pressure on Russia and accused the Kremlin of profiting from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
“A massive Russian assault on Ukraine extended over 12 hours, featuring savage strikes that represent a deliberate and targeted terror against civilian areas—nearly 500 attack drones and over 40 missiles, including the Kinzhal missiles. This morning, Russian-Iranian 'shaheds' were again spotted in our skies. The primary targets of the enemy strikes included Kyiv and the regions of Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa. In the capital, the Cardiology Institute building suffered damage. Currently, four fatalities have been reported in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl. My deepest condolences to all families affected,” Zelensky posted on X.
“A bread-production facility, a tire manufacturing plant, private residences, and other civilian infrastructures were also affected by the strikes. All necessary services are actively engaged on the ground. This heinous attack occurred almost at the conclusion of the UN General Assembly week, showcasing Russia's true stance. Moscow intends to continue its violence, and it must face the harshest global repercussions. The Kremlin benefits from this ongoing war and terror as long as it accrues energy revenues and operates a shadow fleet. We will continue our efforts to undermine these revenue streams and push for diplomacy. All advocates for peace must support President Trump’s initiatives and halt all Russian imports. The time for definitive action is long overdue, and we anticipate a robust response from the US, Europe, the G7, and the G20,” he added.
On September 21, Zelensky called for adequate counteractions against Russia, advocating for sanctions and long-range strike capabilities for Kyiv.
In another statement on X, he mentioned that Russia had executed more than 1,500 strike drones, 1,280 guided aerial bombs, and 50 missiles of various types against Ukraine during that week.
He highlighted that numerous foreign components were identified in this weaponry, totaling over 132,000 items sourced from various nations, including Europe, the US, China, Japan, and many others.
He cautioned that if left unchecked, Russia could pose a significant threat to countries in Europe and the Indo-Pacific.
In his statement on X, Zelensky emphasized, “Russia must face the consequences of its actions. Adequate counteractions are essential to compel them to pursue peace. This can be achieved through the strength of our military, our long-range strike capabilities, and robust sanctions against Russia. Currently, we defend ourselves against Russian attacks almost daily. This week alone saw more than 1,500 strike drones, over 1,280 guided aerial bombs, and 50 missiles of various types. Thousands of foreign components have been identified in this weaponry—over 132,000 items from numerous countries: Europe, the US, China, Japan, and many others.
“These technologies enable Russia to manufacture weapons on a large scale, all aimed at terrorizing our population. If Russia is not halted, it will certainly become a threat to Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Strong sanctions must be employed to counter this threat. We need to sever all potential supply routes and means of evading sanctions and apply pressure on nations and individual companies that assist them. Our partners possess the power needed to safeguard lives. We expect the 19th EU sanctions package to be significantly impactful, and we look forward to the US joining the Europeans in this effort. I extend my gratitude to all those already providing assistance,” he concluded.
