Moscow, Aug 15 (NationPress) A tragic event unfolded early Friday in Russia's Kursk region when a Ukrainian drone strike resulted in the loss of one life and injuries to 10 others, as reported by regional governor Alexander Khinshtein on his Telegram channel.
The drone struck a building in the city's Railway District, triggering a fire that consumed the top four floors, according to preliminary reports from Xinhua News Agency.
Khinshtein expressed his sorrow, stating, “To our deep sorrow, one woman died. I offer my sincerest condolences to her family.”
He added that among the injured, one individual is in serious condition, but all are currently receiving medical care.
In a statement, Russia accused Ukraine of increasing attacks as the August 15 meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin approaches.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that in the past week, 22 individuals have been killed and 105 injured due to Ukrainian shelling and drone strikes. They also shared a map indicating the affected areas within Russian territory.
Alexei Fadeev, Deputy Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated, “With the Russia-US Summit approaching, the Kyiv regime has stepped up its terrorist activity against Russian regions. Over the last week, 127 Russian citizens suffered from shelling and drone attacks.”
Furthermore, the Russian Defence Ministry accused Ukraine of planning a provocation designed to disrupt the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting.
In a Telegram post, the ministry noted, “According to available information received through several channels, the Kyiv regime is preparing a provocation to foil the Russian-American talks scheduled for 15 August 2025.”
The ministry claimed that the Ukrainian security service sent a group of foreign journalists to Kharkiv's Chuguev under the guise of reporting on local residents, intending to stage an attack on the city and attribute it to Russia.
They warned, “Ahead of the summit on Friday, the Armed Forces of Ukraine plan a provocative strike using UAVs and missiles against a densely populated area or a hospital, ensuring high civilian casualties that will be immediately reported by foreign journalists.”
The Russian Defence Ministry stated that this would lead to Russian forces being held responsible for the attacks, thereby creating a negative media landscape that could undermine prospects for Russian-American cooperation in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
