Kyiv, Sep 7 (NationPress) The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reported on Sunday that a tragic incident occurred overnight as a result of Russian strikes, leading to the loss of three lives, including a child, and leaving numerous individuals injured. Several structures were significantly impacted, notably the Cabinet of Ministers building.
Zelensky condemned Russia, stating that they unleashed over 800 drones and 13 missiles, which included 4 ballistic missiles. The strikes inflicted damage on more than 20 homes and a kindergarten in Zaporizhia. He labeled these attacks as a “deliberate crime” and an extension of the ongoing war.
In a message shared on X, Zelensky detailed, “Since last night, efforts have been underway to address the aftermath of the Russian onslaught – over 800 drones and 13 missiles, four of which were ballistic. Preliminary reports indicate that several drones crossed the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. In Kyiv, numerous residential structures were destroyed, with floors collapsing between the 4th and 8th stories. Currently, two fatalities have been confirmed, including a child.”
“My heartfelt condolences go out to all the bereaved. In the capital, dozens have sustained injuries. The Cabinet of Ministers building suffered damage, resulting in a fire on the upper levels. In Zaporizhzhia, over 20 houses and a kindergarten were affected. Warehouses were ravaged in Kryvyi Rih, while one person lost their life in Safonivka, Sumy region, and another in the Chernihiv region. A residential high-rise suffered a strike in Odesa. Many areas have been impacted over the past day, and our emergency services are addressing the situation wherever needed,” he remarked.
Zelensky urged for the fulfillment of agreements made in Paris, emphasizing that Ukraine anticipates the execution of all accords aimed at enhancing its air defenses.
“These recent killings, occurring when genuine diplomacy could have commenced long ago, represent a deliberate crime and extend the conflict. It has been reiterated in Washington that sanctions will follow a refusal to negotiate. We must put into action everything discussed in Paris. We also rely on the execution of all agreements to fortify our air defense. Every additional system protects civilians from these heinous strikes. The global community has the power to compel the Kremlin to cease the killings; all that is required is political determination. I extend my gratitude to everyone contributing to this cause,” Zelensky shared on X.
On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 nations, primarily from Europe, have pledged to deploy troops as part of a future ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, although not directly at the front lines.
In a joint press conference with Zelensky following the “Coalition of the Willing” meeting on Thursday, Macron stressed that these nations would contribute to a “reassurance force” that could deploy troops in Ukraine or offer support on land, at sea, or in the air, as reported by Xinhua News Agency. This announcement followed a virtual coalition meeting co-chaired by Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Macron revealed that after the summit, a phone conversation was held with US President Donald Trump, and the United States is expected to finalize its contributions to the security guarantees shortly. Following the “Coalition of the Willing” meeting, Macron indicated that US support would be confirmed in the coming days.
Zelensky regarded the announcement as a “concrete” advancement and underscored that a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whether bilateral or trilateral, is “essential” for pushing peace initiatives.
