Drone Attacks in Saratov, Russia Result in Fatal Fire Incident

Moscow, Jan 9 (NationPress) Two firemen tragically lost their lives on Wednesday during a rescue mission following a drone strike in the city of Engels, situated in Russia's Saratov region.
The drone strike on an industrial site in Engels ignited a significant fire, as reported by the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, via his Telegram channel. He also noted that one individual sustained injuries, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Busargin stated, “Regrettably, two individuals perished while combating the flames, both of whom were firefighters from the Emergencies Ministry, and another specialist has been admitted to the hospital.”
A state of emergency has been declared in Engels due to the fire's rapid spread, he further mentioned.
In a related incident, at least 13 individuals lost their lives, and 63 others were injured on Wednesday during a Russian strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, as indicated by a statement from Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office.
Two guided bombs hit the city around 4 p.m. local time, damaging both industrial facilities and residential structures, as reported by Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov.
Fedorov added that four of the injured individuals are in critical condition.
The State Service for Emergencies reported that the attack led to damage of four administrative buildings and 27 vehicles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that 13 people were killed in the assault and extended his condolences to the victims' families.
Zelensky shared a video on X, depicting injured civilians receiving treatment on the street, while firefighters worked to control the blaze.
In his message on X, Zelensky remarked, “Russians attacked Zaporizhzhia with aerial bombs. This was a calculated strike on the city. Currently, multiple injuries have been reported, and all victims are receiving necessary aid. Tragically, we are aware of 13 deceased.”
“My heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones. Unfortunately, the casualty count may rise. Nothing is more abhorrent than launching aerial bombs on a city, fully aware that innocent civilians will be impacted. Russia must face consequences for this terror. Safeguarding lives in Ukraine is imperative. Only through strength can we achieve an enduring peace to end this war,” he added.
