Manila (Philippines), Feb 7 (NationPress) A small aircraft contracted by the US Department of Defense crashed in the southern Philippines on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of all four individuals aboard, including one US service member, as stated by the US Indo-Pacific Command.

The incident took place in Maguindanao del Sur in the southern Philippines. Photos from the crash site, verified by a US Defense official, depict the remains of a Beechcraft King Air 350 situated in a rice field.

The official confirmed that the service member who perished in the incident was a US Marine. It remains uncertain whether the three defense contractors were also citizens of the United States.

This twin-engine turboprop aircraft was hired by the Department of Defense for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions at the request of the Philippines, according to the Indo-Pacific Command.

The crash transpired during a “routine mission,” and investigations into its cause are currently underway.

The aircraft is registered to Metrea Special Aerospace ISR, Inc., as per publicly accessible data.

Metrea’s website features a Beechcraft King Air 350 – the same model that crashed – and promotes “integrated, turnkey Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (AISR) solutions to our defense partners.”

This tragic event occurred a day after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had his inaugural call with his Filipino counterpart, Secretary of National Defense Gilberto Teodoro, Jr.

As per a readout of their discussion, they addressed the significance of deterrence in the South China Sea and the enhancement of the Philippine military’s capabilities.

“The aircraft was providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support at the request of our Philippine allies,” stated the Indo-Pacific Command regarding the crash on Mindanao island.

“The incident occurred during a routine mission in support of US-Philippine security cooperation activities.

The US military confirmed the deaths of one service member and three defense contractors in the incident. Their identities are not being disclosed until their families are notified.

“We can confirm no survivors from the crash,” the statement noted.

A limited number of American troops are stationed on short-term rotational deployments in the Philippines, where the US military has assisted in providing intelligence to local forces combating militants linked to the Islamic State group, which remains active in Mindanao.

The Philippine military stated it could not release details regarding the crash as the matter is classified and an investigation is ongoing.

Police and military personnel were deployed to the scene to prevent any possible tampering with evidence, according to a police spokesperson.
