Four Lives Lost and Ten Unaccounted for as Minibus Falls into Canal in Asyut, Egypt

Cairo, Dec 9 (NationPress) Rescue teams in Asyut province, Egypt, have successfully recovered the bodies of four individuals following an incident where a minibus with 14 passengers fell into a canal in the Dayrout district.

Efforts to locate the remaining missing passengers are still underway, with divers and water police actively participating in the search operation, according to reports from state-run Al-Ahram newspaper.

Egypt grapples with a high incidence of road accidents. The factors contributing to this crisis are often attributed to reckless driving and the deteriorating condition of the roads.

As per statistics from the official agency CAPMAS, there were 5,861 fatalities due to road accidents in the country during the year 2023.
