Kathmandu, Sep 22 (NationPress) Nepali President Ram Chandra Poudel on Monday officiated the swearing-in ceremony for four new ministers in the interim government.
In a live broadcast event at the Office of the President in Kathmandu, former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha took the oath as the minister for industry, commerce, supplies, and also for land management, cooperatives, and poverty alleviation.
He will additionally hold responsibilities for the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, previously managed by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, as reported by Xinhua news agency. Mahabir Pun was sworn in as the minister for education, science, and technology, while Madan Prasad Pariyar took the role of minister for agriculture and livestock development. Jagdish Kharel will oversee the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
Sushila Karki, a former chief justice, was appointed as the prime minister of the interim government on September 12, following KP Sharma Oli’s resignation on September 9 amidst violent protests in Kathmandu and other regions.
The initial trio of ministers joined the interim cabinet on September 15.
A general election in Nepal is scheduled for March 5, 2026.
Recently, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India reaffirmed its unwavering support for peace and stability in Nepal, emphasizing that as a close neighbor and fellow democracy, it will continue to collaborate with the Himalayan nation for the welfare and prosperity of both nations.
“Upon the formation of the new interim government in Nepal, we issued a statement welcoming it. Subsequently, a telephonic conversation took place between our Prime Minister and Prime Minister Karki, where we reiterated our commitment to supporting Nepal in establishing peace and stability,” noted MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a recent media briefing.
“As a development partner and a close neighbor, we have provided extensive support to Nepal to facilitate the swift restoration of peace and stability. Our relationship is focused on mutual progress and prosperity,” he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with Nepal's Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday, emphasizing India's unwavering support for her efforts to restore peace in the Himalayan nation.
After their discussion, PM Modi shared on X: “I had a cordial conversation with Mrs. Sushila Karki, Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. I extended my heartfelt condolences for the recent tragic losses and reaffirmed India's steadfast support for her peace and stability initiatives. I also conveyed warm greetings to her and the people of Nepal on their National Day tomorrow.”
