Gaza, April 21 (NationPress) The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has reported that 69% of the Gaza Strip is currently under active Israeli displacement orders.
The Israeli military issued a minimum of 20 displacement orders between March 18 and April 14, according to a statement released by UNRWA on Sunday. The agency further noted that it is operating 115 shelters throughout Gaza, providing refuge for over 90,000 displaced individuals.
Since the ceasefire ended on March 18, approximately 420,000 people have been displaced anew. UNRWA has raised concerns that the already critical humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating due to ongoing Israeli shelling and a seven-week-long blockade on aid.
UNRWA has emphasized the necessity for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the unrestricted flow of humanitarian and commercial provisions into Gaza, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Israel has prohibited the entry of all humanitarian assistance into Gaza since March 2. Following this, it terminated a two-month ceasefire with Hamas on March 18 and resumed lethal air and ground operations in the region.
On Sunday, at least 29 Palestinians were reported killed due to Israeli strikes, according to the Civil Defence in Gaza.
In central Gaza, an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, with others injured, as stated by Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for Civil Defence, to Xinhua.
In southern Gaza, a drone strike killed a Palestinian woman and injured four others at a tent sheltering displaced persons in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis city. Additionally, four others lost their lives in two separate Israeli attacks in the same city, Basal reported.
Since the onset of renewed attacks, Gaza health authorities have reported that 1,827 Palestinians have been killed and 4,828 injured. The total death toll in the region since the conflict began in October 2023 has reached 51,201, with 116,869 injured.
