Palestinian Demonstrations Against Trump's Population Relocation Proposal

Gaza, Feb 2 (NationPress) A significant number of Palestinians took to the streets in Gaza, voicing their opposition to the proposal put forth by US President Donald Trump to transfer the population of the Strip to Egypt and Jordan. The demonstrators expressed gratitude towards Egypt for its rejection of this plan.

Gathering at Al-Saraya Square in central Gaza City and Deir al-Balah in the heart of the Strip, protesters waved both Palestinian and Egyptian flags, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

They displayed large banners featuring images of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi alongside slogans proclaiming, "Egypt will always stand as a true supporter and defender of the Palestinian cause and will never accept the displacement of its people."

In an official statement representing families and tribal leaders, the protesters emphatically rejected any plans or actions aimed at displacing Palestinians from their homeland. "Palestine is our rightful homeland, and we will not permit anyone to jeopardize that," the statement declared.

The message urged Palestinians to unite against any efforts to undermine their rights, encouraging them to remain steadfast on their land and dedicated to their right of return and independence. "We will not tolerate any threat to our Palestinian identity or any misrepresentation of our history, which has been forged by generations of struggle and resilience against the occupation," it further stated.

The announcement also commended Egypt's position under its president, emphasizing his unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and his strong repudiation of any attempts to extinguish it or compromise Palestinian national rights.

Earlier that day, Hamas dismissed the US's proposal regarding the relocation of Gaza's population as "absurd and worthless."

Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri stated that the repeated claims from the US about "displacing Gaza's population under the guise of rebuilding it reflect an ongoing US complicity in the crime."

He cautioned that the US administration's persistence on displacement plans would only serve to "ignite further chaos and tension in the region."

On the same day, foreign ministers and representatives from six Arab nations, together with the Arab League, convened in Cairo to advocate for the prompt execution of a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza to ensure that Palestinians remain on their land.

This meeting included foreign ministers from Egypt, Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, along with Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.
