Washington, Dec 30 (NationPress) Global leaders and US politicians have expressed their sorrow following the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter, who left us on Sunday.

Carter, who brokered peace between Israel and Egypt during his presidency and later earned the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian efforts, passed away at the age of 100.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden stated, "Today, America and the world lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian. Over six decades, we had the honor of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend. What is remarkable about Jimmy Carter, however, is that millions of people across America and the globe who never met him thought of him as a dear friend, too."

US Vice President Kamala Harris remarked, "President Jimmy Carter was guided by a profound and enduring faith -- in God, in America, and in humanity. His life serves as a testament to the power of service -- as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, the 76th Governor of Georgia, and the 39th President of the United States. He reminded our nation and the world that there is strength in decency and compassion."

US President-Elect Donald Trump noted, "The challenges Jimmy faced as President occurred at a critical juncture for our nation, and he did everything possible to enhance the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude. Melania and I are keeping the Carter Family in our thoughts during this challenging time and encourage everyone to hold them in their hearts and prayers."

President George W. Bush expressed, "Laura and I send our heartfelt condolences to Jack, Chip, Jeff, Amy, and the entire Carter family. James Earl Carter, Jr. was a man of strong convictions. He was loyal to his family, his community, and his country. President Carter dignified the office. His dedication to leaving behind a better world persisted beyond his presidency. His involvement with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center set a standard of service that will motivate Americans for generations to come."

Former US President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated, "From his commitment to civil rights as a state Senator and Governor of Georgia to his role as President in protecting our natural resources in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, prioritizing energy conservation, returning the Panama Canal to Panama, and securing peace between Egypt and Israel at Camp David; to his post-presidency efforts at the Carter Center in supporting honest elections, promoting peace, combating disease, and advocating for democracy; to his and Rosalynn's tireless work at Habitat for Humanity -- he worked relentlessly for a better, fairer world."

Egypt President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi shared, "In this moment of grief, I extend my sincere condolences to the family of former American President Jimmy Carter, as well as to the President and the people of the United States of America. His substantial role in achieving the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel will be forever remembered, and his humanitarian efforts exemplify a high standard of love, peace, and brotherhood. His lasting legacy ensures that he will be celebrated as one of the world’s foremost leaders in service to humanity."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken remarked, "Throughout decades of public service, President Carter embodied integrity, compassion, and a commitment to enhancing the freedom, security, and welfare of others. His spirit was reflected in his foreign policy, from negotiating the return of the Panama Canal to its rightful nation to establishing arms control agreements with the Soviet Union. He brought this ethos to every interaction, from heads of state to everyday citizens. President Carter demonstrated what can be accomplished through dedicated and principled diplomacy, mediating a historic deal between Israel and Egypt that established peace between two nations that had been in conflict for decades. His efforts serve as a crucial reminder of what is achievable, particularly amid renewed conflict and suffering in the region."

Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented, "Jimmy Carter's legacy is characterized by compassion, kindness, empathy, and hard work. He dedicated his entire life to serving others both domestically and globally -- and he cherished doing so. He was consistently thoughtful and generous with his advice to me. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Carter family, his many loved ones, and the American populace who are grieving a former President and lifelong humanitarian. May his selfless service continue to inspire us all for years to come."

Panama President Jose Raul Mulino stated, "I express my condolences to the family and the people and Government of the United States on the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. May his soul rest in peace."

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro expressed, "The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela mourns the death of former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and extends its sincere condolences to his family and friends. US Senator Mitch McConnell stated, "Elaine and I join the Senate and the nation in mourning our 39th President, Jimmy Carter. President Carter served during periods of tension and uncertainty, both at home and internationally. Yet, his calm demeanor and deep faith appeared unshakeable. Jimmy Carter was our Commander-in-Chief for four years, but he cherished his role as the humble Sunday school teacher at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia for forty years. His self-effacing devotion leaves little doubt about which of those two significant roles he valued the most."
