Ottawa, June 18 (NationPress) The Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF) has voiced its enthusiastic backing for the recent progress made in Canada-India relations following a pivotal meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G7 summit.
“This represents a significant stride toward a promising future, founded on shared principles, mutual respect, and a unified vision for global advancement. The bond between Canada and India is deeply rooted, characterized by common democratic values, vibrant cultural exchanges, and a thriving economic partnership,” stated HCF in a post on X.
“Under PM Mark Carney's guidance, Canada is embracing a bold and pragmatic ‘Canada First’ strategy. His dedication to prioritizing the interests of our nation remains steadfast, ensuring that our policies and alliances align with what benefits Canadians most,” the post continued.
The Hindu Foundation emphasized that PM Carney’s ‘Canada First’ vision stands resolute against “the influence of extremist groups attempting to import foreign conflicts” into the peaceful and inclusive nation, urging Canadians to concentrate on fostering unity, progress, and global cooperation.
During the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a crucial bilateral discussion with Canadian PM Mark Carney, aimed at mending the strained relations between the two countries.
“PM Carney and PM Modi reaffirmed the significance of Canada-India relations, grounded in mutual respect, adherence to the rule of law, and a commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity. They agreed to appoint new high commissioners to facilitate regular services for citizens and businesses in both nations,” a statement from the Canadian PM’s office revealed.
“They deliberated on the strong and historical bonds between our peoples, partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, and the substantial commercial ties linking Canada and India – including collaborations in economic growth, supply chains, and energy transformation,” the statement added.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that the two leaders had a “very positive and constructive meeting” and consented to “calibrated steps” to restore stability to their relationship.
