Athens, Nov 17 (NationPress) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a short visit to Greece, where both nations formalized a natural gas agreement.
As reported by the Greek official news agency AMNA, the memorandum of understanding between Greece's DEPA Commercial and Ukraine's Naftogaz will facilitate the transfer of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine via the Vertical Corridor from December 2025 to March 2026, according to Xinhua news agency.
This agreement was executed in Athens with the esteemed presence of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Zelensky.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis remarked that this arrangement would supply Ukraine with diversified and reliable energy sources, emphasizing that Greece has emerged as a crucial hub for gas shipments to Central and Eastern Europe.
“I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, his team, the companies involved, and everyone contributing to the realization of such agreements,” Zelensky expressed on social media following his meeting with the Greek premier in Athens.
Zelenskyy also acknowledged Greece’s ongoing, substantial, and multifaceted support, pointing out that Ukraine endures daily assaults on essential infrastructure. He thanked Greece and the US for their roles in the energy agreements and called for persistent pressure on Russia, stating, “Russia warrants additional sanctions, and we are deeply appreciative of Greece’s support for our initiatives to recover abducted children and prisoners of war.”
During this visit, the two leaders also deliberated on reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, defense collaboration, and Euro-Atlantic integration.
