Washington, Feb 28 (NationPress) Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the White House for a pivotal meeting with President Donald Trump, where they are anticipated to unveil an agreement regarding the sharing of rights to Ukraine's rare earth minerals and other vital natural resources.

Dressed in his signature military camouflage, Zelensky was welcomed at the White House entrance by the US President.

This US-Ukraine arrangement aims to be a significant move towards a peace settlement to conclude the Russia-Ukraine war, which has now reached its third year.

“It’s an excellent deal for Ukraine, too, because they will have us over there,” President Trump remarked about the agreement during the initial meeting of his cabinet on Thursday.

“We’re going to be operating over there. We’ll be on the ground. And you know, that way it’s this sort of automatic security, because no one is going to interfere with our people when we’re present.”

President Trump has sought rights to these rare earth minerals, essential for the production of various high-tech equipment utilized in defense, automotive, and medical sectors, as compensation for US support to Ukraine in its defense against Russia.

European leaders have urged President Trump to ensure that security assurances for Ukraine are included in any agreement with Russia.

During recent visits and press engagements at the White House, French President Emmanuel Macron and Britain’s Keir Starmer delivered this message directly to President Trump.

President Zelensky will emphasize this key demand during his discussions with President Trump and may press him on it during their media interactions.

Marc Thiessen, a foreign policy analyst, commented in an opinion piece in the Washington Post on Thursday: “The minerals agreement acts as a security guarantee. Trump has made it clear that he will not deploy American troops to Ukraine. However, with this pact, he is going to provide something even better: American laborers, bulldozers, and earthmovers.”
