During the meeting at Uprashtrapati Bhavan, Dr. Jagdeo praised the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and commended India’s swift advancements in digital governance and financial inclusion through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). They discussed the feasibility of implementing similar systems in Guyana. The Guyanese delegation also expressed interest in India's e-Migrate platform and the ITEC programme, as noted by the Vice President's Office on X.
The Vice-Presidents emphasized their commitment to bolstering the voice of the Global South at international platforms, including the UNSC and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Additionally, both leaders shared their mutual enthusiasm for cricket and recognized Guyana's contributions to the sport.
Dr. Jagdeo arrived in New Delhi last week to participate in the AI Impact Summit, which India hosted from February 16-20. He was welcomed at the airport on February 17 by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, Jagdeo's visit is expected to further solidify the historic and multifaceted relations between the two nations.
Last month, Guyana President Irfaan Ali extended his heartfelt wishes to PM Narendra Modi and the people of India on Republic Day, highlighting India's role as the world's largest democracy and its advocacy for the interests of developing nations on the global arena.
On the occasion of India's 77th Republic Day, President Ali expressed warm congratulations to the Government and citizens of India, celebrating the adoption of their Constitution and its enduring ideals. He remarked on how India's freedom struggle and peaceful transition from colonial rule inspired hope across the developing world and motivated nations to assert their sovereignty.
President Ali emphasized Guyana's appreciation for its relationship with India, noting that the ties between the two countries have evolved into a robust partnership based on mutual respect and collaboration across multiple sectors.
