Washington, Feb 26 (NationPress) Former Vice President Kamala Harris has delivered a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech, labeling it "full of lies" and accusing him of deceiving the American public regarding the economy, voting rights, and relations with Iran.

A day following Trump’s address, Harris appeared on "The Parnas Perspective" with host Aaron Parnas on his substack show on Wednesday (local time) and expressed that she found the speech completely out of touch with the struggles ordinary families face.

"I saw it. It was full of lies," she stated. "When he wasn’t lying... it reminded me of our children’s show and tell at school."

Harris dismissed Trump’s claim that the "state of the union is strong."

"Absolutely not," Harris declared. "Many are suffering under the burden of soaring prices, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and unaffordable housing."

While recounting her recent trips to southern states, she shared an encounter with a mother in Mississippi, who manages a weekly grocery budget of only $150 for a family of four. "Everything she bought was for her children," Harris recounted, noting that the mother told her she would eat "whatever they don’t eat."

"She walked over to grab bottled water because she can’t drink tap water since it’s brown and toxic. This is America," Harris emphasized.

Harris also criticized proposed budget priorities, questioning, "Who does a $1 trillion cut to Medicaid benefit?" She contrasted it with the $1 trillion tax break for the wealthiest Americans, stating, "That’s the reality in our nation right now."

On voting rights, Harris vehemently opposed the SAVE Act, which Trump urged Congress to support.

"Absolutely not," she affirmed, arguing that the legislation would mandate individuals to present a birth certificate or passport for voter registration, and claimed "around 40% of Americans lack those documents."

She cautioned against efforts she described as "suppressing and obstructing the ability of people to vote," asserting that "powerful forces" are "deliberately trying to dismantle our democracy and silence the people's voice."

In terms of foreign policy, Harris expressed worry about escalating tensions with Iran. She remarked that Trump had previously asserted he "completely dismantled their program," calling this claim "complete and utter BS."

"Now he’s deploying American troops to the region, which raises the real risk of sending our servicemen and women into combat," she noted.

"The American public does not desire another war and does not want our children sent to engage in actions that can be prevented," Harris continued. She pointed out that U.S. allies "do not support the President's aggressive stance" and warned that undermining alliances "poses a threat to national security."

When asked about the 2024 election, which Trump won, Harris reflected, "Oh, I have many regrets. I even wrote a book about it, right? My focus now is not on what could have been but on what we need to accomplish at this moment."

The State of the Union address is an annual presentation by the U.S. President to Congress, outlining legislative priorities and assessing the nation's status. It often sets the stage for domestic and foreign policy discussions leading up to elections.

The 2026 midterm elections will play a crucial role in determining Congressional control and are viewed as a referendum on the current President’s agenda, potentially shaping U.S. domestic and foreign policy directions significantly.

Point of View

Harris's critique underscores the significant disconnect between political narratives and the lived experiences of everyday Americans. The focus on economic hardship and voting rights highlights critical issues that resonate widely with constituents as the country approaches crucial elections.
