Hindu Canadian Foundation Raises Alarm Over Khalistani Attacks on Temples

Ottawa, February 28 (NationPress) — The Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF), which represents Hindu Canadians and various multicultural communities throughout Canada, has voiced serious alarm regarding the ongoing harassment and intimidation faced by the Hindu populace, temples, and Indian diplomatic representatives in the nation in recent times.
The foundation has accused pro-Khalistan factions of consistently abusing the right to protest by targeting communities and temples, often cloaked in claims of free speech while utilizing aggressive and divisive methods.
In a statement, the HCF expressed its backing for Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's current official visit to India, as well as his forthcoming trips to Australia and Japan, stating, “This journey marks a crucial advancement in enhancing bilateral relations, diversifying Canada’s trade ties, attracting investment, and creating opportunities for Canadian workers and enterprises.”
“Hindu Canadians and other multicultural groups have long championed for renewed and productive dialogue between Canada and other vibrant democracies with rich historical, cultural, and economic ties. The foundation of these relationships is grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and the contributions of millions of Canadians of Indian descent who enrich our country daily,” it added.
The HCF further pointed out a troubling trend of attacks that began with the Indian consulates in Canada, escalated to issuing threats against Hindu Canadians and their places of worship, and now targets notable Canadian leaders, including recent campaigns against Foreign Minister Anita Anand and “full-throated attacks” on Prime Minister Carney.
“These actions clearly cross a line. Although peaceful protest is a fundamental aspect of Canadian democracy, bullying, threats, and extremism directed at elected officials, multicultural communities, or places of worship are unacceptable in our society,” the foundation emphasized.
“Khalistani groups have weaponized the narrative surrounding India in ways that unjustly malign the nation from which every Hindu Canadian traces their heritage, turning it into a tool for division rather than dialogue,” they remarked.
The HCF firmly denounced this escalating “bullying and growing extremism,” noting it now permeates the core of Canadian democracy, including efforts to intimidate Members of Parliament, Mayors, and specifically targeting British Columbia Mayor David Eby, while threatening the sanctity of the Parliament of Canada.
“We condemn these tactics in the strongest possible terms and urge all levels of government to respond decisively to this rising threat to ensure public safety and social harmony,” it concluded.
