New Delhi, March 2 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that terrorism, extremism, and radicalization represent significant threats not only to India and Canada but also to all of humanity.

During a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, PM Modi stated, "We recognize that these issues are serious challenges that affect not just our nations but the entire globe. Enhanced collaboration between us is crucial for ensuring global peace and stability."

This meeting marks the first official visit by a Canadian Prime Minister to India since diplomatic ties deteriorated during the previous administration of Justin Trudeau. This visit signals a renewed effort to stabilize and enhance diplomatic and economic relations.

Relations between the two nations soured under Trudeau, who made controversial accusations against India following the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which strained diplomatic ties.

After Trudeau's departure from office, both nations have reset their relations and agreed to address the Khalistan matter collaboratively.

Notably, during PM Carney's visit to India—considered a crucial diplomatic mission—a small Pro-Khalistan extremist faction in Canada is reportedly attempting to disrupt efforts aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

According to reports from Khalsa Vox, protests in Canada have escalated recently, with supporters of Nijjar engaging in provocative actions, such as burning and tearing symbols related to India and issuing threats against PM Carney, seemingly intended to hinder diplomatic cooperation.

Recently, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Canada and had productive discussions with Nathalie Drouin, who serves as the Deputy Clerk and National Security and Intelligence Advisor to the Canadian PM.

During these discussions, both parties concurred that the Khalistan situation would be treated as an issue of terrorism and organized crime rather than free speech, a decision that experts view as a significant step forward.

PM Modi remarked on the revitalization of ties between the two countries, highlighting the trust and positivity that have emerged since his initial meeting with Carney.

"Our relationship has gained new energy since our first encounter, fostering mutual trust and optimism. I commend Prime Minister Carney for the increased momentum in our cooperation," he noted.

He revealed that India and Canada aim to elevate their bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030. Modi stated that he and Carney have resolved to expedite the finalization of the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

"Both India and Canada are firmly committed to democratic principles. We embrace diversity and share a unified vision for the betterment of humanity, which motivates us to progress collaboratively in all sectors. Today, we discussed advancing this vision into a next-level partnership. Our ambition is to boost our bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030," he added.

Furthermore, PM Modi highlighted that "unlocking the complete potential" of economic cooperation between India and Canada is a "top priority," and thus, both leaders have agreed to finalize the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement promptly.
