Port Victoria, March 18 (NationPress) On Wednesday, India made a significant contribution to the Seychelles Defence Forces by donating ship spares, underscoring New Delhi's MAHASAGAR initiative aimed at fostering inclusive, cooperative, and sustainable security and growth across various regions.
The High Commission of India in Seychelles reported that Captain Sachin Kulkarni, the Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, delivered the ship spares during a visit to Port Victoria for the 11th edition of Exercise 'Lamitye'. The sea phase of this exercise commenced on Wednesday.
Captain Kulkarni also met with Maj. General Michael Rosette, the Chief of Defence Forces, to discuss the role of INS Trikand in the ongoing military exercise, as shared by the High Commission on X.
An Indian Armed Forces contingent is currently in Seychelles for the 11th edition of the joint military exercise 'Lamitiye-2026' alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). This collaborative event is taking place at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 9 to 20. The term ‘Lamitiye’, meaning ‘friendship’ in Creole, reflects the spirit of this biennial training event that has been hosted in Seychelles since 2001.
The Indian defence ministry highlighted that this edition is particularly noteworthy, featuring participation from all three branches of the Indian Armed Forces. The contingent includes personnel from the Assam Regiment, with contributions from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force, including INS Trikand and a C-130 aircraft.
The exercise aims to enhance cooperation in sub-conventional operations in semi-urban settings, promoting interoperability and joint efforts during peacekeeping missions. Additionally, it aims to strengthen bilateral military relations while sharing skills, experiences, and best practices among both armies, as stated by the Ministry of Defence last week.
Throughout the exercise, participants will engage in joint training, planning, and executing various tactical drills to address potential threats in semi-urban environments, showcasing advanced equipment and technology. This 12-day event will also feature field training exercises, combat discussions, case studies, lectures, and demonstrations, culminating in a two-day validation exercise.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized that this exercise will significantly enhance mutual understanding and strengthen collaboration between the military forces of both nations.
