Victoria/New Delhi, June 27 (NationPress) On Friday, India delivered essential spares to the Seychelles Defence Forces, just a day after the stealth frigate INS Teg docked at Seychelles' Port Victoria for a five-day operational visit. This marks a significant step in India's strategic engagement within the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
During a ceremony aboard the INS Teg, Captain Vikas Guleria, the ship's Commanding Officer, presented the spares to Major General Michael Rosette, the Chief of Defence Forces of Seychelles, with Kartik Pande, the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles, also in attendance.
The visit of INS Teg, lasting until June 30, aims to bolster maritime security cooperation and deepen defence ties between India and Seychelles.
Throughout its stay, INS Teg will hold numerous high-level discussions with top officials from the Seychelles government and defence sectors. The Commanding Officer is set to meet with the Chief of Defence Forces, the Chief of Staff of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF), and the Indian High Commissioner.
A formal transfer of defence equipment from India to SPDF stands out as a significant highlight of this naval visit, emphasizing India’s commitment to regional security. The discussions will also revolve around collaborative efforts and mutual cooperation between the Indian Navy and SPDF.
To celebrate the International Day of Yoga, a themed session titled 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' will involve participants from SPDF, the Indian community, and naval personnel.
A cultural event is also scheduled aboard the ship, anticipated to attract senior officials and diplomats from Seychelles, showcasing the strengthening friendship between the two nations.
As part of outreach efforts, the vessel will be open for public visits, enhancing understanding of the Indian Navy’s capabilities.
A marching unit from the ship, accompanied by the renowned Indian Naval Band, will take part in a parade commemorating the 49th National Day of Seychelles on June 29, which will also feature a flypast by the ship’s helicopter.
Additionally, INS Teg will conduct joint surveillance operations within Seychelles' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) from June 30 to July 2, collaborating with the Seychelles Coast Guard to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.
This port visit highlights India's increasing role as a key maritime security partner in the Indian Ocean and underscores its ongoing dedication to the safety of global maritime resources.
