Male, July 24 (NationPress) Members of the Indian community in Male expressed their delight at witnessing Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his significant two-day State visit to the Maldives. They described it as a “proud” and “exciting moment”, believing that PM Modi's visit will elevate the relations between the two nations to unprecedented heights and be “a great thing” for the Indian Ocean nation's business community.
“Modi ji is here, and we are absolutely thrilled. It feels as if our godfather has arrived in the Maldives. After a challenging period between our two countries, he has made it look effortless,” shared Anil Bhav, a member of the diaspora who was eager to meet the PM.
He continued, “We are incredibly proud that our PM is visiting, and although not everyone could meet him, we are still grateful for this opportunity.”
Another community member remarked, “He is our PM, our esteemed leader, propelling India to new heights. India has emerged as one of the world’s leading economies. His visit extends his affection to this country, which makes us very excited.”
Jagannath, the Chief Operating Officer of SBI in Male, stated, “Meeting Prime Minister Modi is a moment of pride for us. An opportunity like this would be rare even in India.”
Many attendees expressed that meeting PM Modi was a significant and thrilling experience, showing appreciation for his efforts to strengthen India-Maldives bilateral ties.
“Rebuilding this relationship is crucial for the business community here. The trade agreement is a significant benefit for the Maldives. India has once again demonstrated that a friend in need is a friend indeed,” another participant told IANS.
Upon arriving in Male on Friday, Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community.
Chants of “Modi, Modi” and “Narendra Modi zindabad” resonated as people enthusiastically gathered to greet him. PM Modi acknowledged the crowd by waving back as he inaugurated the newly constructed Ministry of Defence building in Male alongside Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.
