Indian Embassy Offers Sympathy Following the Tragic Deaths of 11 Nationals in Georgia

Tbilisi (Georgia), Dec 17 (NationPress) The Embassy of India in Georgia has confirmed the unfortunate deaths of 11 Indian nationals in Gudauri, Georgia, and has expressed its sincere condolences to the mourning families.
In a statement shared on X on Monday, the Indian Embassy in Georgia expressed, "The Embassy of India in Tbilisi is profoundly saddened to learn about the tragic loss of eleven Indian nationals in Gudauri, Georgia, and extends its heartfelt condolences to their families."
"The Embassy is collaborating closely with local authorities to ensure the swift repatriation of the mortal remains back to India. We maintain communication with the grieving families and are dedicated to offering all possible support," the statement elaborated.
The incident, which took place in an Indian restaurant in Gudauri, is currently under investigation by Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Initial reports suggest that the cause of death was likely carbon monoxide poisoning.
On December 14, Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs announced, "The personnel of MtskhetaMtianeti Police Department have initiated an investigation regarding the incident in Gudauri, which resulted in 12 fatalities, under Article 116 of the Criminal Code of Georgia dealing with negligent manslaughter."
"In the lounge area on the second floor of the Indian restaurant, the bodies of 12 individuals, all affiliated with the same establishment, were discovered. Preliminary examinations revealed no signs of bodily harm or violence. According to the initial investigation details, a power generator was located in an enclosed area near the sleeping quarters, which was activated after the electricity supply was interrupted," the statement continued.
The Ministry further clarified that out of the 12 deceased, 11 individuals were foreign nationals, while one was a Georgian citizen.
"In light of this incident, active investigative measures are underway, with forensic teams present at the scene, conducting interviews with relevant individuals. Appropriate examinations are being scheduled, and a forensic medical examination has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of death," stated Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Earlier on December 14, the Indian Embassy in Georgia conveyed on X, "Mission has just learned about the death of 12 Indian nationals in Gudauri, Georgia. Our deepest condolences go to the grieving families. The Mission is in contact with local authorities to gather details regarding the Indian nationals who have lost their lives. We will extend all possible assistance."
