New York, Oct 10 (NationPress) In a colorful exhibition of Indian heritage and diplomatic relations, Parvathaneni Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, hosted a Diwali celebration in New York. This event was specifically organized to honor the visit of a 12-member Indian Parliamentary delegation, attended by numerous UN Permanent Representatives, senior UN officials, and esteemed friends of India.

This celebration was also significant as it coincided with the end of India’s campaign for its candidacy to the UN Human Rights Council.

“Our aspiration to serve on the UN HRC stems from our conviction that this membership offers us not just a unique opportunity, but also a profound responsibility to advocate for human rights. We are confident that through dialogue, cooperation, and constructive collaboration among member states, we can advance the promotion and protection of human rights,” Harish expressed on X.

While welcoming the Indian Parliamentary delegation, Ambassador Harish remarked, “The Permanent Mission of India to the UN will greatly benefit from their insights, experiences, and leadership.”

The 12-member delegation included notable figures such as Poonamben Maadam, PP Chaudhary, Brijesh Chowta, Vivek Tankha, S. Phangnon Konyak, Medha Kulkarni, Rajeev Rai, N K Premachandran, Bharat Mathukumilli, Nishikant Dubey, Vamsi Gaddam, and Ujjwal Nikam.

During their visit, the delegation also engaged with the Permanent Representative of France, Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont, where discussions revolved around various aspects of India-France cooperation within the UN framework.

Moreover, they interacted with UN Director of Crisis Group Richard Gowan and his team, focusing on current challenges and the overall operational landscape of the UN.

Earlier on Wednesday, Vivek Tankha presented India’s national statement at the General Debate of the Sixth Committee at the UN, emphasizing the significance of the rule of law in national governance and reaffirming India’s dedication to enhancing national security while contributing meaningfully to global peace.

Additionally, Brijesh Chowta articulated India’s stance in the Second Committee’s General Discussion regarding countries in special situations and operational activities for development, highlighting India’s support for Least Developed and Landlocked Developing Countries through initiatives like the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation network and the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.
