New Delhi, June 25 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his eagerness to showcase India's vision for global peace and security while advocating for collaborative efforts to eradicate terrorism during the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao, China.

In a renewed diplomatic initiative against Pakistan-supported cross-border terrorism, Singh aims to urge the SCO to amplify actions against terrorism.

Singh is set to travel to the port city in Shandong Province, China, to participate in the SCO Defence Ministers' meeting from June 25-26, which is anticipated to thoroughly discuss the evolving security framework in the region.

Prime Minister Modi, on social media platform X, stated, "Today, June 25, I will be departing for Qingdao, China, to attend the SCO Defence Ministers' Meeting. I look forward to engaging with various defence ministers on multiple topics, aiming to present India's vision for global peace and security while advocating for joint and ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism."

This visit follows Operation Sindoor, where India executed targeted airstrikes on nine significant terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.

This marks the inaugural trip to China by an Indian Union Minister since the severe strain in bilateral relations due to the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, which began in May 2020.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is also present in China for a meeting of SCO national security chiefs.

As per an official statement, Singh will reaffirm India's unwavering commitment to the SCO's fundamental principles while presenting New Delhi's vision for enhanced regional cooperation to combat terrorism and extremism.

The Defence Minister is expected to emphasize the necessity for united, consistent, and coordinated actions to eliminate threats to regional peace and stability.

He will also stress the importance of deeper trade, economic partnerships, and improved connectivity within the SCO framework.

In addition to the plenary session, Singh will conduct bilateral discussions with counterparts from multiple participating nations, including China and Russia.

According to the Ministry of Defence, "India places significant importance on the SCO for fostering multilateralism, political, security, economic, and people-to-people interactions in the region. The SCO operates based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal matters, mutual respect, and equality among all member states."

China is hosting the summit as the current chair of the SCO.

Relations between India and China have remained tense since the violent Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, although recent diplomatic efforts have sought to ease tensions.

The military standoff officially concluded following the successful disengagement at Demchok and Depsang in October of the previous year.

NSA Doval's visit to Beijing in December and his discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi under the Special Representatives (SR) framework marked a crucial step in reviving dialogue.

The decision to reactivate the SR mechanism was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23.
