Alappuzha (Kerala), Oct 16 (NationPress) The influential Hindu Ezhava leader and General Secretary of SNDP Yogam, Vellappally Natesan, launched a scathing attack on state Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar, a close ally of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Thursday.
Natesan accused the minister of being arrogant and disloyal, stating, "Ganesh Kumar is a person who embodies arrogance. He has brought disgrace to his family, behaves like a feudal lord, and has even betrayed his father. His ministerial position was secured through Saritha (the solar scam accused)," igniting a heated debate in political circles.
In response to Natesan's personal remarks, a visibly upset Ganesh Kumar remarked that "everyone reacts in accordance with their upbringing." He emphasized, "I will not lower myself to his standards. His choice of words showcases his background, not mine."
Natesan, renowned for his sharp rhetoric and shifting political alliances, does not hesitate to confront political figures. His recent criticism of the minister followed his appearance in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's vehicle during the Global Ayyappa Sangamam at Pamba last month.
He has been known to lavish praise on Vijayan, even predicting that the Chief Minister will secure a third term in office.
Many observers interpret Natesan's remarks against actor-turned-politician Ganesh Kumar as a strategy to aid his son, Tushar Vellapally, the leader of BDJS, which is the second-largest member of the BJP-led NDA coalition.
Despite attempts to elevate his son’s political standing, including seeking a Rajya Sabha nomination, these efforts have yet to succeed.
Recently, with Congress-led UDF convenor and Lok Sabha member Adoor Prakash extending a hand to Tushar Vellapally for joining the UDF, Natesan's criticism of Ganesh Kumar is being taken seriously.
Ganesh Kumar, from the Hindu Nair community, has been involved in a longstanding rivalry with the Ezhava community.
He reportedly played a pivotal role in forging connections between the Nair Service Society and Vijayan ahead of last month’s Ayyappa Sangamam.
However, tensions escalated following revelations about the Sabarimala gold plating scam, leading Natesan to criticize the rampant corruption in the temple's administration and call for reform.
The temple board has predominantly been led by members of the Nair community, and Ganesh Kumar’s role in facilitating the NSS representative at the Ayyappa Sangamam appeared to bolster his influence.
