Bengaluru, Oct 16 (NationPress) R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, asserted on Thursday that State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Priyank Kharge has been persistently sending letters to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticizing the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His frequent derogatory comments about the RSS suggest he aspires to outshine Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and ultimately take the Chief Minister's position.
Speaking in Bengaluru, Ashoka remarked, "In the meantime, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has been embarrassing the Congress high command by singing the RSS anthem in the Assembly, attending the Isha Foundation's Mahashivratri programme, participating in the Kumbh Mela, and reciting Sanskrit shlokas."
"This creates an impression that D.K. Shivakumar lacks dedication to the Congress party's ideology, while Priyank Kharge is being positioned as a robust adversary of the RSS — a clever tactic by Siddaramaiah to designate him as his successor as Chief Minister," Ashoka elaborated.
"On one hand, D.K. Shivakumar is striving to demonstrate his loyalty to the Congress high command by authoring a book titled 'A Symbol of Loyalty.' On the other hand, CM Siddaramaiah and Minister Priyank Kharge seem to be playing a different game entirely," Ashoka stated.
"The conclusion of the Congress power struggle is sure to be thrilling," he added.
Ashoka also noted that Shivakumar has been sending intimidating messages to senior Congress leaders with the aim of securing the Chief Minister's role.
Shivakumar claimed, "I received a call" simply to threaten Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
On Wednesday, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated he received a threatening call in 2019 when the Congress-JD-S coalition government collapsed, asking whether he preferred to become the Deputy Chief Minister or go to jail, to which he chose the latter.
"Shivakumar is making these statements during the 'November revolution.' He should clarify who contacted him," Ashoka challenged.
"In his bid for the Chief Minister's position, Shivakumar is issuing threats and challenges to the party's senior members. He has made these statements at a crucial time of power transition, asserting he will seize power forcefully. His messages appear aimed at making him the Chief Minister," Ashoka added.
"The Goddess Hassanambe has granted two flowers to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He keeps them close, while the Goddess has not bestowed such favor upon CM Siddaramaiah during his temple visit. The significance of this flower will unfold during the November revolution. Both are testing their luck with Hassanambe," he concluded.
"The Google AI hub, which could have created 30,000 jobs for Karnataka, has moved to Andhra Pradesh. They have merely squandered time discussing the RSS. Had that company come to Bengaluru, it would have generated substantial revenue for the state treasury. If all businesses exit, why should the Congress party remain in power? Considering the garbage and potholes in the city, companies will hesitate to establish themselves here. CM Siddaramaiah directed Minister Priyank Kharge to draft a letter regarding this," Ashoka stated.
"If it is suggested that government employees should not engage in RSS events, I can assure you I was once part of the government. Many like me are affiliated with the RSS. The state government cannot impose restrictions," he added.
