Tehran, Feb 27 (NationPress) On Thursday, Iran issued a robust condemnation of Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Syria and areas near Damascus, urging for global intervention to put an end to Israeli aggression.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, released a statement condemning the airstrikes conducted by Israeli fighter jets on Tuesday night, which hit multiple locations.
"We caution against the persistence of Israel's expansionist and hostile actions in Syrian territory," Baghaei stated, calling on the international community and Muslim nations to undertake swift and decisive measures to denounce and halt Israel's law-breaking.
He highlighted Israel's recurrent breaches of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Israel and Syria, asserting that the strikes represent a flagrant violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
According to Baghaei, "Israel's occupation of portions of Syrian land and its repeated transgressions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Arab state amount to a crime of aggression." He urged the UN Security Council to take action, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Israeli assaults came in the wake of comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who advocated for a demilitarized southern Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) indicated that the strikes targeted the Syrian Army's First Division headquarters located in Al-Kiswah, south of Damascus, as well as Brigade 112 in Izraa, Daraa province. Additional strikes were also noted near the Syria-Lebanon border, with SOHR reporting at least four casualties as a result of the attacks.
