Tehran, May 8 (NationPress) Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has categorically rejected a recent media claim and the ensuing speculation regarding a proposal by Tehran for direct nuclear negotiations with Washington and a potential meeting between the Iranian and US Presidents.

In a statement made on Wednesday to Iran's Press TV, Baghaei responded to a report from the Israeli news outlet Ynet, which alleged that Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi had approached US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, asking for direct nuclear talks with the US delegation due to perceived "frustration" with Omani mediation efforts aimed at reconciling the two parties.

Additionally, Baghaei dismissed media conjectures suggesting that US President Donald Trump, during his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia next week, might meet with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian.

The spokesman characterized the media report and rumors as "fabricated and baseless," asserting that "all updates on Iran's diplomatic endeavors, including indirect discussions with the US, are conveyed transparently, professionally, and promptly by the (Iranian) Foreign Ministry".

The delegations from Iran and the US, led by Araghchi and Witkoff, have conducted three rounds of indirect discussions to date. The first and third rounds occurred in the Omani capital Muscat on April 12 and April 26, while the second took place in Rome on April 19.

The fourth round, initially slated for May 3 in Rome, was delayed due to what the mediator Oman referred to as "logistical reasons".

Nour News, associated with Iran's Supreme National Security Council, reported on Tuesday that the fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US is set to take place in Muscat on Sunday.

However, Baghaei clarified earlier on Wednesday that the definitive date and location for the fourth round of Iran-US dialogue remain undetermined.

Both the US and Iran have characterized their discussions as generally productive, including the latest round, which was framed as a "constructive" process.

This announcement follows the US imposing new sanctions on entities allegedly involved in the illicit trade of Iranian oil and petrochemicals.

Point of View

I affirm that clarity and transparency in diplomatic communications are crucial for fostering trust between nations. The Iranian government has consistently maintained that all significant updates regarding its discussions with the US will be shared openly, reflecting its commitment to diplomacy.
