Jerusalem, July 23 (NationPress) Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz emphasized that Israel must pursue a total victory in its conflict in Gaza.
Katz addressed a multi-front situation evaluation with Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir and other high-ranking commanders on Tuesday, as per a statement from the minister's office.
"We are currently at the closest juncture to achieving the war's objectives. There are two theaters left open in Gaza and Yemen, and we must strive for a complete triumph in both regions," Katz stated.
His comments emerged during ongoing discussions in Doha, Qatar, regarding a ceasefire deal in Gaza, with Israeli media earlier reporting notable progress, according to Xinhua news agency.
The statement highlighted Katz's insistence on fulfilling the war's goals, particularly the return of all Israeli hostages and the capitulation of Hamas.
He also pointed out the potential for renewed conflict against Iran, stressing the importance of safeguarding the "achievements" gained from last month's brief confrontation, while devising an effective strategy to prevent Iran from resuming its nuclear and missile initiatives.
Katz asserted that the Israeli army's presence at control points and in security zones across various sectors, including Syria and Lebanon, is a security imperative for the protection of Israeli communities.
Furthermore, he noted that the Israeli army will maintain a presence in refugee camps in the West Bank and will extend operations to additional camps if required.
